Interview from Glamour: "O-M-G, You Guys. Zosia Mamet Has a Band and Tells Us All About It!"

Glamour: How'd you come up with the name of your band, The Cabin Sisters?
Zosia Mamet: All of us Mamet children were born in Vermont and spent our first few years at our home there. Our dad has a wood cabin on the property that he built with a dear family friend when he first bought the house, and he's written most of his great works in that cabin. It's a truly magical place. We named our band after that -- we're sisters of the cabin.

Glamour: What made you two decide to form a band?
ZM: My sister and I were super sick of all of the music that had been coming out. We felt like a lot of music had lost some of the soul that it used to have, and we wanted to recapture that. We never thought we could write music -- we were just planning on doing covers. Clara came over with her banjo one day for our first "band practice," and a few hours later, kind of by accident, we had our first song. It was "Bleak Love." We'd both just had our hearts incredibly broken, and the song kind of flowed out of both of our current intense heartache. No better material than an achin' heart!

Glamour: How would you describe your sound?
ZM: We definitely both have an incredibly soft spot for bluegrass and wanted to try and give that sound some justice. I'd say there's definitely a quirky indie vibe to our sound, but really, we just write what comes out of us. We're not trained musicians and only started making music together about two years ago, so I wouldn't say we're necessarily one kind of music or another.
